UNIVERSITY PLACE (Wash. - Sakibaba defeated Monet Chun, 11 and 9, of Canada on Sunday to become the second Japanese winner for Women's Amateur in U.S. history.
Baba, 17, won the final six holes and ended the match at Chambers Bay with a birdie on par-3 ninth. This was the 27 th hole in the 36-hole match.
As the sole Japanese winner, Baba was joined by Michiko Hattori (1985 champion).

Baba was one of four amateurs to make the cut in the U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles, tying for 49th. She shared medalist honors and reached the round of 32 in the U.S. Girls’ Junior at The Club at Olde Stone.
Chun, 21, won the Canadian Women's Amateur July 23 to secure a place in the event as well as the CP Women's Open. She was the champion of Michigan's first Big Ten championship in April and also earned medalist honors.
This margin was the third largest in a 36-hole final of the event. Anne Quast Sander, who beat Phyllis Preuss 14 and 13, set the 1961 record. Glenna Collett defeated Virginia Van Wie 13 and 12, in 1928. Babe Didrikson Zaharias beat Clara C. Sherman 11 and 9.
